Where to stay in Tampere – A guide to the “city of lakes”

Tampere is the second-largest city in Finland.

Tampere is located north of Helsinki, between the Näsi and Pyhä lakes, divided by the Tammerkoski rapids that move through the centre.

It is called “city of lakes” for its more than 200 lakes that, along with its green areas and authentic Finnish saunas, make it an ideal destination for lovers of nature and breathtaking landscapes.

Also, Tampere is attractive for its popular markets, cafes, pubs and its quality cuisine.

To get to the city, there is the Tampere Pirkkala airport, located 17 km from the city.

Another option is the Tampere Train Station, located in the heart of the city, as well as long-distance buses.

To get around Tampere, you can take one of the buses that connect the suburbs with the city centre.

The climate here is divided between long, cold winters and short, mild summers, so the best time to visit Tampere is from late June to mid-July.

As for the best areas to stay in Tampere, the City Centre stands out for its proximity to the sites of tourist interest and its varied hotel offer. See accommodation in Tampere City Centre

1. Our favourite area: City Centre

In the centre of Tampere, you’ll find the most important buildings, parks, museums, shops, cafes, bars and restaurants in the city.

Among the attractions that stand out in the area is the Spy Museum, where the visitor can live the experience of espionage with interactive exhibitions, including a lie detector.

A short distance from the centre is the entertaining Särkänniemi Theme Park, with recreational games, an aquarium and a planetarium.

Also, the Särkänniemi has the famous Näsinneula Observation Tower, with a revolving restaurant from where you can get an excellent panoramic view.

On the other hand, at night, locals and visitors have fun in the casinos, movie theatres, clubs and Finnish rock bars in the area.

Moving around the City Centre is not a complicated task since here is the central train station of the city, as well as different bus lines.

The City Centre is the best area to stay in Tampere regardless of the reason for travel or the duration of the stay. However, you have to take into account that accommodation in this area is usually more expensive.
