The Northeast area of Asunción is home to some of the most exclusive neighborhoods in the city, such as Manorá, Villa Morra, Carmelitas or Ycua Sati.
This is the residential area of the city par excellence of the middle-upper and upper classes of Asunción. Therefore, this is a very safe area to stay in Asunción.
In recent decades, the northeastern neighborhoods have experienced a large population growth, which has resulted in new residential buildings, office towers and shopping centers that make this the most lively area in Asunción.
Some of the most important shopping centers in the northeast of the city are Shopping del Sol or Shopping Mariscal.
This area also concentrates most of the quality hotels of Asunción.
The northeast of Asunción is connected to the rest of the city by buses that run along its wide avenues, particularly Av. España and Mariscal López.

2. Asunción City Center
Asunción City Center or “Centro” is, as its name suggests, the heart of the Paraguayan capital’s life.
It is located to the south of the Bay of Asunción, a fluvial bay of the Paraguay River. Barrio Catedral is the Centro’s main neighborhood and the birthplace of Asunción in the sixteenth century.
While much of the historical heritage of this area has been demolished to open the way for modernity, it is still possible to see picturesque remains of the colonial legacy of Asunción.
In the Center of Asunción, you can see some of the most important tourist attractions of the city such as the Uruguayan Plaza, the Old Railway Station, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the House of Independence, the Cabildo (City Hall), the Palacio de López, the Manzana de la Rivera or the Costanera Avenue.
