Where to stay in Caracas – A guide to the Venezuelan capital
Caracas is the capital and largest city of Venezuela.
Although its political center is located in the Capital District, its metropolitan area is spread through the Miranda and Vargas state.
This city is located in the north of the country, in a valley of the Litoral mountain range, very close to the coasts of the Caribbean Sea.
Its location in a valley at 940 meters above sea level, as well as the surrounding mountains, give Caracas a high tropical climate, with mild temperatures that tend to be around 20ºC. The rainy season runs from May to October.
The main natural attraction of the Venezuelan capital is the Ávila, an imposing mountain that rises between the city and the coast. This mountain, icon of Caracas, is part of the Waraira Repano national park and is accessible from the city through a cable car system that reaches its peak.
The historical-cultural attractions of Caracas include the birthplace of Simón Bolívar, the hero of American independence from Spain, and a handful of interesting museums that include the National Art Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Carlos Cruz Diez Foundation or the Fine Arts Museum.
Caracas is connected by one of the most extensive public transportation systems in Latin America, the Metro de Caracas, with five lines of trains and two of Metrocable. This metro offers an efficient transport from north to south and from east to west in the Venezuelan capital.
Simón Bolívar International Airport, which serves the city of Caracas, is the main hub of the country and offers connections to the main tourist sites of Venezuela such as Isla Margarita (Margarita Island) or Los Roqu
